OLUSANMI AWODOGAN, it was over a year ago when you contacted me via the Facebook to inquire if I was the daughter of one of your Aunts in US. You were full of joy when I confirmed that your “Aunty Abibat” is actually my mother. My mother could not contain herself with joy the first day you guys spoke over the phone and would not stop talking about every one of your conversations. She won’t let me rest until I call you. She marveled on how matured, intelligent and ambitious young man you have grown to become. She was just telling me last week Friday, 06/01/12 ( less than 48hours before the plane crash in Lagos that took you away from us) of how proud she was of your achievements since arriving in the United States a year ago to start your MBA. You assumed the fatherly role to your siblings even before and after your father passed away approximately a year ago. She was impressed with your level of attentiveness and your interests in knowing more about your roots. OLUSANMI AWODOGAN, you were gone too soon! It was supposed to be a brief visit to Nigeria to see your family and to attend a friend’s wedding ceremony in Abuja but it ended up being an endless journey. Though your time in this world was very short, you led a purposeful and fulfilled life and serve as a good example to us living. One of the self-consolations we have is to have known such a good person who was beautiful inside out. Sanmi, if you are looking down from heaven, we want to let you know, we miss you from the bottom of our heart. The important lessons that you imparted will remain ingrained in our hearts forever. We love you but Jesus loves you more. To us family both in the United States, Nigeria and all over the world, most especially his mother, wife, young child and siblings, weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5) and blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted (Mathew5:4). Sunre ooooo.
